The aim of this program is to enable health professionals to improve health care for the Unified Health System's (SUS) patients. Public Health Based on Evidences is a course designed following a request by the Ministry of Health. It is part of the Formation Network of Human Resources in Health Surveillance and has a partnership with the Ministry of Health.

The first term of students graduated in 2007 and as a group they published 19 scientific articles from all over Brazil. The dissertation themes were focused around three wide areas: services evaluation, specific program evaluation, and child mortality. Graduating students are taught how to identify problems, analyse data and produce appropriate measures to improve Brazilian population's health care. Students use primary and secondary data collected in their professional field or adjacent fields so as to make the research use more immediate.
